Roles and responsibilities

• Represents people and special groups in the National Assembly
• Deliberates on issues of concern to the people
• Makes national laws
• Decides allocation of national revenue between levels of government and national State organs
• Oversees State organs, national revenue and expenditure
• Reviews conduct of specified State officers and may initiate removal processes

Qualifications overview

• Must be a woman
• Kenyan citizen for at least ten years before the election
• Registered voter
• Nominated by a political party or an independent candidate
• Must meet applicable moral, ethical and legal requirements
